WHAT WE ARE

Belmont Community Cinema Ltd has been selected by Aberdeen City Council as the preferred operator of the Belmont Cinema in Aberdeen. Our plan is to deliver a sustainable and exciting future for this important cultural venue in our city.

OUR MISSION

We want to ensure that the Belmont Cinema is sustainably reopened to the cultural and educational benefit of Aberdeen and those who live here.

This campaign's core aim is that an inclusive and accessible cinema / cultural space is available in our city centre for many years to come.

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO
MAKE THIS VISION FOR OUR
WEE CINEMA A REALITY.

HOW IT ALL STARTED

In October 2022, the ‘Save the Belmont Cinema’ campaign was formed in response to the sudden closure of the Belmont Cinema in Aberdeen city centre.

Since then, the campaign steering group have been working steadily to develop a plan of action for the refurbishment and successful re-opening of this iconic venue — establishing Belmont Community Cinema Ltd in 2023.

Thanks to early and sustained support from Belmont customers, businesses and organisations in and around Aberdeen, we've made great progress and now have an opportunity to make the campaign's mission a reality.

Below are the four key 'pillars' of the proposed new Belmont Cinema:

01.

FILM

We will programme and promote films that engage and inspire the community and the next generation of filmmakers — the Belmont Cinema should be THE destination for film in Aberdeen.

02.

EDUCATION

An integral part of our vision is a strategic partnership with Station House Media Unit (shmu) who will lead on, and deliver, an exciting education and filmmaking programme to help nurture and develop the next generation of filmmakers.

03.

COMMUNITY

This will be a venue for Aberdeen, operated from Aberdeen, and with the interests and cultural nuances of Aberdeen always at top of mind. Space will be available for community groups, events and projects to operate — it will be a city centre focal point for culture and community collaboration.

04.

CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

From the proposed refurbishment work, to the suppliers we hope to bring on board for food & drink — the Belmont Cinema should be geared towards delivering an excellent, comfortable and unique customer experience, one that exceeds the offerings of larger cinema groups.

OUR COMMUNITY

In its initial stages, the 'Save the Belmont Cinema' campaign was driven forward by the work of a Steering Group, some key advisors and the support of community stakeholders across the city.

Now, we invite everyone in and around Aberdeen to support the campaign and bring this vision to reality.

Whether you can offer time, donations or fundraising activities, everything helps and is appreciated.
