Introduction to Scriptwriting Workshop

Monday 23 March, 6.30pm - Monday 20 April, 6.30pm at Attic Clothing Shop, Union Street

Are you interested in learning how to write for the screen?

Join the Belmont for a four-week Screenwriting workshop, guided by Katie Campbell and professional screenwriter, Chris Watt.

This four-part course will run from 6.30pm-8pm on Monday evenings from March 23 - April 20, at Attic clothing shop on Union St, with special guest, professional screenwriter Chris Watt, who will attend sessions one and three to share his expertise.

Session 1 - Introduction to Screenwriting

Session 2 - Script development and character building

Session 3 - Problem-solving and technical scriptwriting

Session 4 - Workshopping, sharing, and where to go next

Come along with any ideas you might have, and learn how to turn them into a script!

This is an entry-level screenwriting workshop, with absolutely no experience needed. Just come along and give it a go.

Chris Watt is a screenwriter and script consultant, based in Aberdeen. Chris is best known for writing the screenplay for the feature film STALKER, a psychological horror thriller, starring Saturn Award-nominee Sophie Skelton (Outlander) and BAFTA-winner Stuart Brennan (Rise), produced by Golden Globe-winner Gareth Wiley, which premiered at Frightfest in 2022 before going on to a theatrical release in the US, and DVD/Digital release in the UK. Other screenplays include THE MIRE, available on digital platforms, and award-winning short films BRUISE and THE PURSUIT OF INDEPENDENCE. A member of BAFTA Scotland, Chris has worked as a script consultant with the BFI Film Labs and numerous screenwriting competitions and filmmakers around the world. He has been a guest speaker on several university screenwriting courses, including the University of London and NESCOL. His third feature THE BROOK (which he co-wrote) is currently in post-production.

The Belmont Cinema Charity Film Quiz - April Edition

Join us for our Monthly Film Quiz!

Test your film knowledge and stir up a bit of friendly competition for a great cause.

We ask competitors who are able to give, to donate £10 per person or £40 per team, and help us fundraise to refurbish, reimagine, and reopen our beloved Belmont Cinema.

Quiz consists of five rounds, and is hosted by Dallas King (Trustee and Film Critic). Max. number per team is four people.

Everybody To Kenmure Street (12A)

Saturday 18 April, 1.30pm at The Anatomy Rooms, Citymoves Dance Agency, Shoe Lane

In May 2021, a UK Home Office dawn raid triggers one of the most spontaneous and successful acts of civil resistance in recent memory.

In Pollokshields, Scotland’s most diverse neighbourhood, hundreds of residents rush to the streets to stop the deportation of their neighbours.

Tickets for Everybody to Kenmure Street are free of charge, and all proceeds from the screening will be split between The Save The Belmont Campaign to reopen, refurbish, and reimagine Aberdeen's Only Independent Cinema and Grampian Regional Equality Council (GREC) a registered charity based in Aberdeen, taking a leading role in advancing equality across North East Scotland . They work to tackle prejudice and discrimination, celebrate diversity, build positive community relations, and provide evidence to change policy and practice.
