Architectural Heritage Fund awards £10,000 grant to The Belmont Cinema

Belmont Community Cinema Ltd. are delighted to have been awarded a grant of £10,000, from the Architectural Heritage Fund, to support the development of the project to reimagine, refurbish and reopen the historic Belmont Cinema.

The Architectural Heritage Fund (AHF) is a registered charity, working to promote the conservation and sustainable re-use of historic buildings for the benefit of communities across the UK, particularly in economically disadvantaged areas.

The grant will contribute to the project that aims to create a new and sustainable future for Aberdeen’s historic Belmont Cinema building.

Operating as the only independent cinema, film education centre and social space in Aberdeen, the project plans to offer opportunities for community cohesion, individual exploration and learning to those who live and work in the city and visitors to the region.

The Belmont also hopes to contribute to the regeneration of the city centre, encouraging activity in neighbouring businesses.

Jacob Campbell said:

“We are extremely grateful to the Architectural Heritage Fund for their support of the transformative project to breathe new life into the much-loved Belmont."The support sees the project to move closer to its goal of reopening a sustainable community-led cultural and educational cinema for all."We have been thrilled by the support of Trusts and Foundations, local businesses, grant making bodies and generous individuals who share our vision to open a unique independent cinema, offering the best film and learning experience to the widest audiences"
