Funding Boost From Two Organisations

Aberdeen’s Belmont Cinema has announced it has received a double funding boost as it receives support from The Northwood Charitable Trust in addition to a funding pledge from the Hugh Fraser Foundation.

The Northwood Charitable Trust was established in 1972 with an objective to provide financial support to enhance lives through a wide range of charitable organisations which address deprivation, poverty and inequality, advance educational attainment, progress physical and mental health and wellbeing, and support community, heritage and cultural enrichment projects.

The Belmont will be awarded £60k by the Trust over the course of two years, which will contribute to the costs of the vital works needed to refurbish the cinema prior to reopening.

The Hugh Fraser Foundation supports registered charities throughout Scotland active in a variety of sectors, including the arts and culture. The Foundation has pledged £15,000 to the Belmont cinema.

Miss Patricia Fraser, Chair of the Hugh Fraser Foundation, says:

"The Trustees of the Hugh Fraser Foundation are delighted to be supporting this project which will enable cinema experiences along with creative learning and training opportunities."

Gemma Cruickshank, Funding and Development Manager for The Belmont Cinema, comments:

“We’re grateful to receive support from both The Northwood Charitable Trust and The Hugh Fraser Foundation, which will help turn our vision of reopening the cinema into a reality.

“We’re creating a cinema that will serve everyone in our community. This funding will ensure that we can refurbish our cinema to the highest standards - improving accessibility, energy efficiency and ensuring its long-term viability.”
