Planning permission approved for refurbishment of The Belmont Cinema
We are delighted that planning permission for The Belmont Cinema has been formally approved by Aberdeen City Council.
This marks a significant milestone in our collective effort to bring the Belmont back to life as a much-loved and thriving cultural space in the heart of Aberdeen.
The approved plans reflect our vision for a reimagined Belmont – honouring the cinema’s heritage while transforming it into a modern, welcoming and inclusive venue. With thoughtful refurbishment of the screening rooms, a revitalised entrance, improved accessibility, and a redesigned basement space that will support a wide range of community and cultural events, we believe the Belmont can once again be a cornerstone of Aberdeen’s cultural life.
Securing planning permission is a major step forward, but we know our journey to reimagine, refurbish and reopen Belmont is far from over. Our focus as a charity continues to be on securing the much-needed investment and support to deliver the full potential of the project.
We remain incredibly grateful for the continued enthusiasm and encouragement from everyone in the Belmont Community as we move into this next phase with your support. With ongoing backing from the public, partners and funders, we are confident that we can restore and reinvent The Belmont for generations to come.
